Pittsburgh Parking Authority – First Avenue Garage

The site and landscape design play an important role in the integration of the building with the surrounding intermodal activities. The purpose of the project was to provide a pedestrian connection to the existing Eliza Furnace Bike Trail, the proposed Light Rail Transit Station, and to create an aesthetic setting for the new parking garage. The landscape and site plan design reflect the rhythm of the parking garage facade and the paving pattern of the adjacent buildings. The contemporary landscape design is intended to create a dynamic site for the user, to create a sense of place, and to announce the gateway to the city. A simple plant material palette consisting of Ginkgo trees, big blue lilyturf, and lawn were used to meet the harsh environment of the site and to be easily maintained.
