US Navy – Naval Observatory Urban Forest Management Plan
The urban forest management plan was developed to assist the North Potomac Activity Public Works with the information necessary to effectively manage the trees that constitute the urban forest. Thes trees provide many benefits to the facility including visual aesthetics, energy conservation, wildlife habitat, erosion control, security as well as mission benefits.
The objectives of this management plan included a tree inventory of all qualifying trees to establish their type, a detailed inspection to determine their condition and maintenance requirements, to provide an overall recommendation and management plan, and to create an urban forest informational layer for Arc/Info Geographic Information System (GIS) that contains associated attributes for each tree.
