Sewickley Riverfront Park – Sewickley, PA

The project is a visual interpretation of our local history. The overall theme and character are reminiscent of a park or train station during the late 1800s to early 1900s. The focal point is a 30-foot diameter cast iron gazebo fabricated from old columns from that period and a 1200-foot length boardwalk faced stone from a local quarry. A ramp circulates around the gazebo onto an elevated walkway. From the walkway pedestrians may view the river and rail road. The elevated walkway includes three seating areas that resemble historic train waiting areas, custom cast iron handrails, exposed aggregate concrete paving, lights, and view finders/binoculars. An old small scale steam train engine and caboose have been placed in the park on the lower level for visitors to view and learn.

The natural components of the park such as the vegetation will be used to educate visitors about the indigenous plant life found along the rivers’ corridor. This indigenous landscaping will be placed along the lower park level and will follow the walkways as they weave through the site and connect back to the street walkway. Small plaques will be placed along the walkway identifying specific plant material.

The park will be accessible to all users. The design is in strict accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The park will include designated disability parking spaces, lights, ramps, walkways, walls, railings, fencing, landscaping, exhibits, and an elevated boardwalk.
