City of Pittsburgh – South Side Riverfront Trail 10 to 1

Pittsburgh’s rebirth has largely been due to the rejuvenation of its waterfronts into vibrant, active spaces. The Three Rivers Loop Plan has brought purpose and focus to this city-wide revitalization effort. Sandwiched between two existing trails, the project site is located on the South Side along the Monongahela River between 1st and 10th Streets. This trail completes the last portion of the Three Rivers Loop Plan on the South Side. The City of Pittsburgh and Friends of the Riverfront commissioned this project in an effort to encourage community reinvestment in the Pittsburgh waterfront. This design included reintroduction of recreation, both active and passive, through the use of a meandering bicycle/walking trail. Found concrete pieces were used in the design as a barrier along the river’s edge. Native plant material was introduced to enhance the trail users experience and to augment the existing landscape.
