riverfront park improvements

new brighton, PA

Overview

The Borough of New Brighton has taken the initiative to rehabilitate their riverfront. Their breathtaking riverfront needs some much needed upgrades to enhance the user experience. Their primary focus was to restore their kayak launch, introduce shade elements into different areas across the parks, and enhance the 8th Street Tunnel.

This project features a new pattern of circulation with the introduction of a bike lane through the 8th Street Tunnel. In addition the bike lane, the tunnel will receive a total face lift on its facade and the interior will have LED light components incorporated throughout. The kayak launch will receive a complete reconstruction with new slip-resistant concrete and lighting elements. Along the riverfront overhead shade elements will be incorporated into the existing overlook viewing decks to provide shade for the users. In addition to the overhead structures, there will be a gazebo structure, to not only provide shade, but to also create a more designated picnic area. A playground featuring natural-looking play structures will be incorporated to match the vernacular nature of the parks but to also provide programming for children.
